Editorial Review for Scampi's Restaurant & Bar – by Maura York
The Scene
Finessing fine dining in a beach town, Scampi's transcends the dress code with professional service and yacht-club ambience. Large windows along the restaurant's back overlook an outdoor seating area and Laguna Madre; linen and dim-lighting swaddle dining families and couples in relaxed luxury.
The Food
The seafood-heavy menu's influences are many and diverse. Peppers, black beans and chipotle cream sauce ensure the lobster phyllo burrito appetizer is a south-of-the-border sensation; likewise, Creole mustard adds oomph to the fried alligator starter. Entrees are equally eclectic--from sauteed fish to stir-fry to pasta. Curried chicken fettuccine satisfies, while the peanut butter shrimp's rich, garlicky coating makes the dish a must-have. Order a glass of red wine from the ample list to complement the Kahlua-chocolate mousse cake or the sumptuous-as-it-sounds white chocolate-Key lime-creme brulee cheesecake.

Our family went here late one evening, and though a couple of dishes stood out in flavor such as the Peanut Butter Shrimp, we felt that the majority of the food was rather average and the service was a little slow. I'm sure the view is lovely as the sun sets on the bayfront. However, the cost would keep us from returning since the food wasn't spectacular at its price range.
Pros: good bay view, tasty bread
Cons: expensive

Just had dinner at Scampi's for the first time, and it was great! Started with the sampler appetizer, and it was ves unique and tasty. Wine list was extensive and fairly priced. My entree was the Peanut Butter Shrimp, and I can honestly say this was one of the best dishes I have ever had.
